The Opportunity

Gatwick Airport is changing at an outstanding pace and with this we have an exciting opportunity for a Programme Manager on our Pier 6 Programme to be part of a high performing team building Gatwick's future infrastructure.

The Programme

In this varied and interesting role, you will ultimately be responsible for the overall delivery of the Pier 6 Programme, which is to be delivered at the beginning of 2022.

Responsible for managing the performance of the Pier 6 (Bechtel) Construction Manager in the design, procurement, construction, delivery, and handover of the programme to achieve the desired business outcomes, you will manage the governance of the programme and implement the organisation's processes and best practice, including running the Monthly Exec-level Programme Board.

You will also be responsible for managing, and positively influencing, key stakeholders (both internal & external) associated with the programme and project(s), ensuring that the Construction Manager delivers the assigned programme to defined cost, schedule, and quality requirements, leading the successful handover of assigned projects to the Operations and/or Commercial Departments including ensuring all requisite Airport Operational Readiness planning and activities are in place.

The Role

As the Programme Manager you will be responsible for leading the planning and execution of a large, strategically important programme of works, covering a series of inter-related enabling projects and a large-scale complex main project, within a live airport operational environment, delivered under a Construction Management contract. The Programme Manager, as the Client representative, will hold ultimate responsibility for the technical, commercial and financial management of the overall programme of works, and will ensure all interfaces between projects, and indeed between programme and operational / commercial / technical stakeholders, are managed effectively to deliver to the project, programme and overall business objectives.

Do you have the skills and behaviours required for this role?

  • Educated to Degree/Post-Grad level or equivalent in programme management, architecture, engineering, or construction related field.
  • Qualifications – practitioner level in programme management (e.g. MSP or equivalent).
  • Experience (typically associated with ten years' experience) as a programme manager/senior project manager on multi-year projects with a value typically in excess of £50m in a relevant industry including experience (typically associated with 3-5 years' experience) of leading teams of up to 50 people and managing external suppliers.
  • Experience of managing programmes of work including multiple, interfacing, concurrent projects highly desirable.
  • Experience in leading infrastructure programmes/projects in a live operational environment desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate and present complex ideas in a simple way, including to senior stakeholders
