As a Programme Manager (Sustainability) at London Gatwick, you'll be a pivotal part of London Gatwick's journey towards Net Zero emissions by 2030. This ambitious objective, driven by our shareholders and with the full backing of our business, was publicised earlier this year and is a demonstration of London Gatwick's commitment to sustainable aviation.
This will be an exciting and diverse programme of work, which will see you leading a wide a range of interconnected Mechanical Engineering focused projects. It includes workstreams that will achieve campus decarbonization, reduced water use, infrastructure for electric vehicles, renewable energy and reduced energy use which must all be delivered in a live operational environment
You will lead the overall programme, surrounded by knowledgeable people, all focused on delivering our Net Zero goal. What is the role?
Reporting into the Capital Programmes Director, you'll play a key role, responsible for leading and overseeing the Sustainability programme. You'll skilfully guide teams through the procurement, delivery and handover phases of individual projects.
You'll also take the lead in transitioning projects to the Operations, ensuring all necessary Airport Operational Readiness planning and activities are properly implemented.
Other duties include:
- Handling the technical, financial, and commercial aspects of the programme. You'll expertly make sure that the various are planned, well-coordinated and work seamlessly together to meet their objectives, and the programme objectives overall.
- Continuously developing and upholding world class health, safety, and environmental standards across the programme and its contractors. Our aim is to achieve health, safety and environmental excellence.
- Uncovering and finding solutions to challenges and risks throughout the programme, highlighting these to contractors, and making sure project timelines stay on track and the airport continues to operate smoothly without disruptions.
- Helping the planning team grow by setting standards, managing, motivating, coaching and mentoring team members. You'll be excited about helping talent individuals reach their potential.
What are we looking for?
The live environment at London Gatwick requires all our teams to have a flexible and adaptable approach, with problem solving skills and an innovative outlook. You'll have the opportunity to be involved in setting the strategic direction of projects, as well as the opportunity to take the lead of your own projects from inception to completion. In addition, this role requires:
- Previous experience as a Programme Manager or Senior Project Manager delivering multi-year programmes/projects within the construction or infrastructure sectors, typically in excess of £50 million. A background on projects with a focus on Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing or heating.
- Experience of leading teams (up to 20 people)
- Experience managing external suppliers and contractors
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex ideas in a simple way to multiple stakeholders up to board level
- Expert stakeholder management skills, with demonstrable experience in managing complex, and sometimes conflicting stakeholder needs.
