The buzz, the energy, the sheer magic of travel… you can feel it in the air all around you. Here, you'll be part of an energetic team and a vibrant community. We can help you thrive in a career that's a world away from the everyday.

This role takes an office first hybrid approach here at London Gatwick, with three days a week in the office, two days remote, managed around the needs of the business.

London Gatwick offers an exciting opportunity for a Social Sustainability Manager to join our dynamic team at the world's most efficient single runway airport. Be a part of shaping our future, supporting the delivery of a substantial investment plan to develop and enhance our airport infrastructure and facilities.

What is the role?

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Social Sustainability Manager to lead the delivery of meaningful social impact across our construction programmes. This is a unique opportunity to influence one of the UK's most high-profile infrastructure programmes, ensuring our investment delivers long-term value through skills and education opportunities, stronger local supply chains, community engagement and a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

Reporting to the Construction Sustainability Lead, you will be the key link between Gatwick's construction supply chain and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will drive the delivery of our Construction People and Communities Roadmap, ensuring social sustainability commitments are embedded across projects and translated into measurable outcomes.

Working closely with our Social Impact, Communications and Public Affairs teams, you will lead initiatives that create positive social value while ensuring compliance with key obligations and commitments.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering one of the UK's most significant infrastructure investment programmes while creating lasting social value for local communities.

You'll join a forward-thinking organisation committed to sustainability, innovation and inclusive growth, where your work will have a direct and measurable impact.

What will you do?

  • Lead and oversee the delivery of the Construction People and Communities Roadmap across major programmes and projects.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on social sustainability, including social value, skills and education pathways, community development and stakeholder engagement.
  • Drive strategic improvements and initiatives that deliver measurable community benefits and social impact.
  • Lead the construction element of the Northern Runway Project Employment, Skills and Business Strategy.
  • Ensure compliance with social sustainability obligations, including Development Consent Order requirements, Section 106 agreements and other project commitments.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with educational institutions, charities, community organisations, employment partners and the construction supply chain.
  • Champion Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) across construction programmes and supply chain activities.
  • Review and assure contractor social sustainability plans, community engagement activities and supporting evidence.
  • Develop communications and engagement processes that ensure a coordinated approach across all construction projects.
  • Lead social sustainability performance reporting, data management and target tracking across programmes.
  • Facilitate training, knowledge sharing and best-practice initiatives to support continuous improvement.
  • Represent London Gatwick at industry forums and stakeholder events where appropriate.

Do you have what we're looking for?

You will be a collaborative and influential sustainability professional with a passion for creating positive social outcomes and delivering meaningful change.

Essential experience includes:

  • Significant experience in Social Sustainability, Social Value, Social Impact, Community Development or Skills, Employment and Education (SEE) programmes.
  • Strong understanding of social value frameworks and impact measurement methodologies such as TOMs, SROI or equivalent.
  • Experience developing and delivering strategies, programmes and initiatives that achieve measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders.
  • Experience working across complex organisations, programmes or infrastructure environments.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience managing performance data and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.
  • Membership of ISEP, ICRS or a similar professional body.

Desirable:

  • Experience within construction, infrastructure or major projects.
  • Knowledge of National Skills Academy for Construction (NSAfC) standards or accreditation.
